I'm thankful for April giving us us her time to teach such an important class. I didn't know how much I made in a year or know much about putting my money in places where it grows. I look forward to having more conversations with April later about our savings and budget goals for the year.

about the project.

A big part of living in a Fijian Village is living off the land and using the natural resources around you to feed families, take care of the home, and nurse illnesses with herbal medicine. However, that doesn't mean that money isn't being used everyday. As society evolves, there is a need to pay for phone service, electricity, bus fares, and basic food items like flour and sugar. As Fijians start to grow businesses and invest in education, so does the need for currency in the form of a Fijian Dollar instead of a tabua.

This is the evolving culture our Peace Corps cohort has stepped into and tried to assist in its development (with the request from the Fijian Government.)

Our Personal Money Management Training is one part of this - an opportunity to train the future trainers of financial literacy in the village.

Imagine this - 3 people in each clan, one man, one woman, and one youth member being a reliable source of information, ready to guide others towards a more financially responsible, liberated life.

requested participants to volunteer themselves to come to the workshops.

capacity building includes inviting specific people to join, not just sharing a blanket invitation.

asked for participants that could understand English so they can bridge the language gap for others.

its important to mold the content to the participants in addition to the language.
